In All Honesty....

....I don't like Alpha Males. Now because I read Romance, this is probably a surprise for some people. (Not all). This being simply because Romance markets itself on the "Alpha Hero". These types of characters can range from "mild"(which is still pretty bad) to Christian Grey level (from Fifty Shades Trilogy). And in all honesty, no matter how "mild" they are. I just can't get behind them. I understand that some people like reading them. I understand that some people like writing them. I just don't. I have seen too many books that have had the "hero" a) tell the heroine what she was or wasn't going to do/wear/etc. and taking away all choice from her, b) just be all around possessive over her, c) had her frightened to the point that she was afraid to tell him "bad news" because of the way he'd react. I have seen too many books where the "hero" is just controlling over her. And, in my opinion, he does nothing to prove he's redeemable. In fact, usually by that point, I don't even want him to. I want the heroine to put her foot down and leave. However, I know that does not happen. And keep in mind, the stuff above I mentioned was for just Contemporary Romance. Urban Fantasy/Urban Fantasy Romance and Paranormal Romance multiply all of that tremendously. All for the sake of the "hero" being an Alpha Wolf/Vampire/Creature. That is not an excuse or justifiable reason to do any of that. I'm just so tired of the Alpha Male trope/character.

(And there is a difference between the stuff I described and a male character saying "Hey, I love you, alright?")
