"Deeper" by Megan Hart -- A Book Review

Deeper - Megan Hart

So, I've finally read Deeper. And while I understand some of the criticisms of it, especially the what-is-or-what-isn't Nick, it overall was really good.

The story of Deeper revolves around Bess, who decides to visit the small town/beach that she vacationed/spent time at during her breaks from college. Well, the particular Summer that this focuses on is the summer that Bess' relationship with her boyfriend gets beyond rocky(and now, soon-to-be ex-husband) as well as well as when she meets Nick Hamilton. (The latter I would say is the more impacting part of the story but Andy's influence/importance appears in the story as well) So, as Bess is visiting her home/beach house, she ends up getting visited--by the ghost of Nick Hamilton(or something close to that). The story seems to focus on, again, similar to a lot of Hart novels, Bess sort of coming into her own--letting go, moving on with her life, and kind of adjusting to the changes(or at least accepting them). That's kind of what I got from it anyway. I really did enjoy the story and felt the writing was great.

I would say that the two flaws of it were a: I would've liked a bit more explanation for why Bess got back with Andy and b: I would've like a little bit more explanation for what exactly Nick was and what helped him move on(or want to). I felt that got kind of muddled along the way, in both cases. And given the way he treated her, I kind of would've liked some kind of explanation other than what was provided.

Other than that, very good read and it had me captivated.
