Okay, so, I know I said that I’m currently reading Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. But this was a little short read, which was also free, and I decided, eh, meh, why not? So, basically, we have two essential strangers who get stuck on an airplane(and/or airport) due to weather conditions (snow specifically). And already, when the MMC (male main character) sees the FMC (female main character), he already sets sights on her and imagines doing pretty much any position he can get her in, something that I’ve grown kind of used to seeing in Erotic fiction novels/stuff. So, then it goes to the FMC’s point-of-view and how she’s feeling and etc. As far as grammar and spelling goes, there didn’t seem to be too many errors. At least I didn’t spot that many. I might have overlooked them. I kind of only had three main issues with this book. One, in the beginning, the FMC is reluctant to even talk to the MMC because he’s younger than her and white. The age thing, I kind of overlooked, and in all honesty, I could have overlooked consistently bringing up the fact that the FMC is black and MMC is white, if there was more of background to it. Maybe if there was a “he-wouldn’t-get-certain-things” or even a some kind of social justice(or something similar) explanatory thing to go along with it, but there wasn’t. There was a brief part where I thought the author was going to bring that in, but no, and it goes back to mentioning the fact that she’s black and he’s white(and etc.). Another thing, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t intentional, and maybe I’m misinterpreting it, but a few times where I felt like the MMC’s interest/love for the FMC either was a bit “too strong” (trying to be nice here) or was just focused a bit too much on certain things (like the way he talked about her skin color and how much he loved it made slightly uncomfortable but maybe I’m looking too much into it). So, yeah, the skin color issue without fully giving more background on it or the way it was focused on(on both sides) was slightly off-putting.
Two, there were some parts of this that I just didn’t….find erotic. It just didn’t do it for me. That’s not to say that it won’t work for others. But some of it just kind of made me real back or look at the screen, like “Really?”. So, that’s a personal thing.
Three, it’s one of those books that in hind sight it kind of causes my whole “feminism” button to get pushed. Like if sit and think about it. So, yeah.
All in all, for a freebie, it was alright. It was suitable. It wasn’t the worst thing I’ve read I suppose.
